GAMA Badminton Tournament 2024 – Rules

 

GAMA Rules:

  • The GAMA Badminton Tournament is only open for Austin Malayali community (either parents or spouse of a player need to be a Malayali). GAMA reserves the right to disqualify a player, if this rule is not adhered to.
  • If any matches that could not be completed on the given day, an alternative date/venue will be announced by GAMA.
  • GAMA or board of directors will not responsible for any damages/injuries caused by the participants.
  • GAMA Sports Team will decide the game formats and draws based on the number of registrations received.
  • GAMA reserves the right to close the registrations without prior notice if needed.
  • GAMA Board/Sports Team reserve the right to change any rules if needed.
  • The Competition judge may disqualify a competitor or issue a warning for any of the following reasons
  1. Competitor fails to comply with GAMA Policy, competition rules or the rules of the venue.
  2. Competitor is disruptive and/or interferes with other competitors.
  3. Any warning may result in a 5 second Competition penalty per incident.
  4. In the event of any dispute, competitors must accept the final ruling of the Competition Judge.

 

General Rules:

  • This tournament will have following events:

                    Gents Doubles

                    Ladies Doubles

  • There will be a limit on the number of participant Teams:

             Gents Doubles is restricted first 32* Team entries

 Ladies Doubles is restricted to first 8*Team entries

  • Event location:

Austin Badminton Academy (ABA), 1974 Steam Way, Suite 102, Round Rock, TX 78665

  • Event Dates:

 October 19th  : 7PM to 10PM CST

 October 20th  : 7PM to 10PM CST

  • Each GAMA member is allowed to register only ONE Gents and/or ONE ladies Team. Team registered as a second entry by the same member will be disqualified from the Tournament, if this rule is not adhered to.
  • Please follow all the protocols of the Austin Badminton Academy
  • Please keep the playing area and surrounding area clean. Please dispose of used water bottles and other items in the trash can.
  • Please report to the GAMA registration desk at least 15 minutes before the game. For example, if the game is scheduled at 8.30am please report to the registration desk by 8.15am. If any team turns up 10 minutes after the scheduled time, the match will be assumed to have been forfeited and the opponent advances to the next round.
  • Each team will have to bring their own badminton racquets and will need to wear proper attire for badminton. Black soled shoes are not permitted in the Austin Badminton Academy
  • After each game, players are requested to assist with  the umpiring, score keeping, and line judge duties. 
  • Each team will have an option to switch players in the event of any unforeseen circumstances, however, no substitutions of players are allowed after the tournament commences.  The approval of the new team member is at the sole discretion of the organizing committee and all decisions are final.
  • GAMA will provide water, sports drinks for the players

     

Game Rules:

  • Game starts with toss and winner choses between side or serve.
  • Shuttles will be provided by GAMA during the match.
  • Change of shuttles will be at the discretion of the umpire.
  • 2-minute warm up time before each match and 1-minute interval will be allowed after each game.
  • Every time there is a serve – there is a point scored.
  • The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.
  • At no time during the game should the player touch the net, with his racquet

or his body.

  • The shuttle should not be carried on or come to rest on the racquet.
  • A player should not reach over the net to hit the shuttle.
  • When serving no part of the body should be in contact with any of the lines on the court, and the shuttle should remain below the waistline of the server.
  • A serve that lands on the line of the service boundary is considered IN. A serve that touches the net but still goes over and lands inbounds is legal and considered a valid serve. In addition, you cannot serve again if you miss the shuttle on your serve.
  • Players cannot move their feet off the ground until the shuttle is struck. Once the shuttle is struck, all players may move their feet off the ground, even before the shuttle has moved past the net.

 

    Preliminary rounds/QuarterFinals/SemiFinal:

  • A match consists of the best of 3 games
  • The first two game will be till 11 points
  • At 10 all, the side which gains a 2-point lead first, wins that game
  • If required, the third game will be till 11 points
  • At 10 all, the side which gains a 2-point lead first, wins that game
  • The teams change ends after each game. If the game goes to the third game, players change ends when a side scores 6 points.
  • Each match wins 2 points
  • In the event, two teams end up with same points in a group, then the team with better head-to-head will be ranked higher 
  • In the event, teams cannot be separated after the above, the teams with better combined points margin across all games in the group will be ranked higher.

Final:

  • A match consists of the best of 3 games till 21 points
  • At 20 all, the side which gains a 2-point lead first, wins that game.
  • The teams change ends after each game. If the game goes to the third game, players change ends when a side scores 11 points.
