Program Rules

Visual Art / Literary Contests will be held on Saturday, Mar 30th, 2024.

Visual / Literary registration begins March 18th, 2024, and closes Monday, March 25th 11:59PM.

Event will take place at Clay Madsen Recreation Center, 1600 Gattis School Rd, Round Rock, TX 78664

 

Contest Categories..

Visual Art 

  • Drawing (Tiny-Tots, Juniors, Intermediate, Seniors)
  • Painting (any medium) (Tiny-Tots Juniors, Intermediate, Seniors)
  • Create a Comic contest (Junior, Intermediate)  

Writing in English

  • Story Writing (Juniors only) 
  • Essay Writing (Intermediate, Seniors) 
  • Poetry Writing (Junior, Intermediate, Seniors) 

Story Writing in Malayalam 

  • Story Writing (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) 

Photography 

  • A live event (Intermediate, Senior)

Lego 

  • Two member Team – A live event (Junior, Intermediate)

 

Age Group Criteria:

  • Senior: Grade 9th to Grade 12th
  • Intermediate: Grade 5th to Grade 8th 
  • Junior: Grade 1st to Grade 4th
  • Tiny Tots: Grade: Pre- Kindergarten and Kindergarten
  • Visual / Literary registration begins March 18th, 2024, and closes Monday, March 25th 11:59PM.
  • Walk-ins are not allowed.
  • Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes before their contest begins.
  • When a minimum of three contestants is not available, the program may be cancelled or conducted as a non-competitive event.
  • Participants arriving after the event began can still participate. However, no grace period will be provided.
  • Participants who show up after the event is over will not be allowed to participate.
  • Each competitive item will be awarded a first, second, and third prize.
  • In the event of a tie, the following process is followed:
    • In the event of a tie for first place, the first prize will be awarded to all first-place winners, a second prize will not be awarded, and a third prize will be awarded to the runner-up. The same goes for the second and third places.
  • Topics for each event will be announced at the event. 
  • The time of each contest will be communicated closer to the event date.
  • During the contest, parents/guardians cannot assist the contestant/s.

  • Essay writing contestants should submit their work on materials supplied by GAMA.
  • Contestants should bring their own writing accessories (pencil/pen/eraser)
  • Contestants will be provided scratch paper for drafting.
  • No reference material will be allowed.
  • All electronic devices should be switched off at the competition venue.
  • A maximum of 30 minutes will be provided to complete the work.
  • Completed work should be submitted to the invigilator present at the competition venue.
  • Contestants should not record his/ her name anywhere on the sheet.
  • A separate sheet will be provided to record the Tag number assigned to the contestant. This sheet should be stapled to the submitted work.
  • Contestants should bring lead pencil, sharpener, eraser and all necessary accessories.
  • Sketching/Drawing Paper will be provided by GAMA.
  • Colouring is not allowed for Pencil drawing.
  • A maximum of 45 minutes will be provided to complete the work.
  • Completed drawing should be submitted to the invigilator present at the competition venue.
  • Contestants should not record his/ her name anywhere on the sheet.
  • Only Tag number assigned to the contestant should be recorded on the back side of the paper.
  • All electronic devices should be switched off at the competition venue.
  • No tracing of any kind is allowed.
  • Contestants should bring lead pencil, sharpener, eraser, color pencils and all necessary accessories.
  • Sketching/Drawing Paper with printed blocks will be provided by GAMA.
  • Use colored pencils or markers for vibrant illustrations.
  • Entries should be visual, with minimal text. Any written content should be in English and kept brief.
  • Ensure that the content is age-appropriate and adhering to the theme.
  • Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, use of colors, adherence to the theme, and overall storytelling ability.
  • A maximum of 45 minutes will be provided to complete the work.
  • Completed drawing should be submitted to the invigilator present at the competition venue.
  • Contestants should not record his/ her name anywhere on the sheet.
  • Only Tag number assigned to the contestant should be recorded on the back side of the paper.
  • All electronic devices should be switched off at the competition venue.
  • No tracing of any kind is allowed.
  • Contestants should bring necessary paint, brushes and tools for painting.
  • Contestants can use any coloring medium they are comfortable with (like water color, crayons etc.).
  • Paper will be provided by GAMA.
  • No reference material will be allowed.
  • A maximum of 45 minutes will be provided to complete the work.
  • Completed painting should be submitted to the invigilator present at the competition venue.
  • Contestants should not record his/ her name anywhere on the sheet.
  • Tag number assigned to the contestant should be recorded on the back side of the paper.
  • All electronic devices should be switched off at the competition venue.
  • Photographs must be taken at the event location.
  • Photographs should be unique and original.
  • A topic/subject matter will be provided to the participants once they check-in.
  • Photographs can be taken using any camera including mobile devices.
  • While using mobile devices photos in portrait mode will not be accepted.
  • Both color and black & white photos may be submitted. 
  • Digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos will not be accepted. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging, and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents, are acceptable.
  • If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo, they reserve the right to move the photo to Altered Images and disqualify it.
  • Photographs must be in a .jpeg, .jpg or heif formats.
  • Files submitted may not be larger than 25Mb.
  • Only one photo can be submitted by a contestant.
  • Altered Image is defined as: Photographs manipulated for artistic purposes by applying digital and/or traditional special effects (i.e. colorizing, toning, collage, photo composites, HDR, etc.).
  • Copyrighted photos/ images are not permitted.
  • Photos must be submitted to the organizers before the end of the event either via memory cards/flash drives or via email. Please send your entry to [email protected] “PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION – SENIORS” for the seniors and “PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION – INTERMEDIATE” for the intermediate categories before the close of the event along with the assigned tag number.
  • Email should include the title of the photo and may have a write up not exceeding 100 words about the photo.
  • Each competitive team must consist of two (2) participants only.
  • Contestants shall be provided with a topic on the day of the competition.
  • Lego pieces shall not be provided by GAMA. Contestants must bring their own Legos. It must be disassembled.
  • No trading, swapping and/or borrowing Legos from other contestants.
  • No reference material will be allowed. Entries must be an original creation, not a Lego designed kit, project found online, in a magazine, book, etc.
  • A maximum of one hour will be provided to complete the work.
  • Tag numbers assigned to the contestant should be displayed in the designated area.
  • Contestants must build their projects in the designated area.
  • Contestants can bring their Legos in an average shoe box size: 13″ (L) x 7.5″ (W) x 4″ (D).
  • Contestants can use parts of the following types:
